Biorefinery for Biomolecules 1st edition 16 - 17 April 2012 Wageningen, The Netherlands Organised by the Graduate School VLAG, in cooperation with the Laboratory of Biochemistry and Bioprocess Engineering, Wageningen University, The Netherlands |
Background
Biorefinery, an important factor in the biobased economy, comprises downstream processing technologies to purify biomolecules from different fermentation streams of prokaryotic and eukaryotic origin. The main focus is on proteins for which many different technologies can be used starting from cell disruption up to purification of the final product. In this course state-of-the-art technologies in downstream processing and analytical methods for product characterization will be discussed. Systems that will be addressed include bacteria, yeasts, fungi, mammalian cell lines, baculoviruses and algae.
Target group
Persons interested in this course should have a strong background in biochemistry, biotechnology and bioprocess engineering or a comparable discipline. The course aims at PhD students, as well as participants from industry and research centers.
Course aim
The course aims at providing detailed background information of downstream processing of biomolecules with relevance in the biotechnology industry.
Course design
The course is a 2 day event and consists of a series of lectures and provides ample opportunity to discuss the separation technologies in biotechnology. Participants are encouraged to present their current research during a poster presentation session on Monday evening.
