Nutritional and Lifestyle Epidemiology 9th edition 21 - 25 September 2009 Wageningen, the Netherlands Organised by the Graduate School VLAG, in co-operation with the Division of Human Nutrition of Wageningen University (WU) |
Background
Nutritional and lifestyle factors are modifiable risk factors with a potentially great public health impact. Epidemiology offers both the conceptual framework and the scientific instruments required for studying causal diet-health relationships by adequately designed and properly conducted preventive research. In addition, it provides a framework for summarizing and integrating evidence, using systematic literature search, meta-analysis and modelling approaches, relevant to determine dietary recommendations and policy objectives. In its research and teaching programme on nutrition and health the Graduate School VLAG seeks to advance knowledge and expertise in this important public health area.
Target group
The course will attract epidemiologists, nutritionists, public health professionals, health care professionals and physicians with some years of research experience. Participants should be familiar with the basic concepts of nutrition and epidemiology.
Course aim
The aim of this advanced training course is to acquire knowledge and expertise in the design, conduct and analysis of epidemiologic research on lifestyle and nutritional factors in chronic disease etiology, and in summarizing such evidence for public health purposes.
Course design
The programme will be a combination of lectures, practicals and group work. It ranges from study designs and validity of exposure assessment, dietary patterns and diet-health relationships to summarizing and weighing evidence for health policy.
