VLAG FLASH - April 2006, Edition 2
The 2nd edition of the IP "Food and Health" will be organised at the Warsaw Agricultural University.
Background
Over the last decade, increasing concerns about health risks related to food safety, nutrition and diets have had significant impact on food-consumption patterns in Europe. Demands for high quality food for the consumer involve not only nutritional aspects, but also issues dealing with food safety, sensorial properties of food, food availability, convenience, image and environmental aspects.
Therefore there is an urgent need for highly educated people who are able to collaborate in a
multidisciplinary way on the subject of food production and nutrition in the field of public health.
This course aims at training young food and nutrition researchers in the link Food - Health, especially in the field of the influence of food technology and food processing on the nutritional value and safety of the consumer products and the health effects. Further on it should help enable PhD-students to evaluate the introduction of new technologies and new products on health aspects and raise awareness about the importance of consideration of various aspects of the total food chain on
nutritional and health aspects of food products.
Primary target group are PhD-students performing research in the field of food science and nutrition. The selection of the PhD-students will be performed by their graduate school and /or home university. Major selection criteria are the research topic in relation to food and health and English proficiency.
