A recent study in rural Haiti, which was designed to test the
relative impact on child growth of a preventive versus a curative
programme intervention model, made extensive use of anthropological
methods and theories. This presentation will discuss the ways in
which anthropology contributed to the ability of the study to
effectively achieve its goals, from the initial design of the
intervention, through the development and monitoring of its
execution, to the analysis and interpretation of results. The study
illustrates the value of multi-disciplinary research in nutrition, in
general, and the contributions of anthropology, in particular.
