Applied Biocatalysis
This 3rd master class will provide detailed information on the basic principles of enzymes, enzyme immobilization and matters relevant to their industrial use.
Background
Enzymes are used in various industrial processes ranging from the ton scale conversion of starch to the gram scale synthesis of chemical compounds. The enzymes used in these industrial processes need to be robust, cheap and work under varying conditions. This master class will provide detailed information on the basic principles of enzymes, enzyme immobilization and matters relevant to their industrial use. In addition, emerging fields such as use of enzymes in combination with chemical catalysts, enzyme nanoreactors and the use of enzymes in the lab on a chip will be discussed. Also issues relevant to industrial practice such as intellectual property will be presented.
Target group
The course is at graduate level. The course will be valuable for those who are working with enzymes in academia and industry, or are considering to do so.
Course design
The master class consists of a number of lectures given by experts from academia and industry and provides ample opportunity to exchange knowledge with the experts as well as the participants.

The course will take place at the Linneausborg, Zernike Campus, Groningen.
Participants have to book their own hotel room. Suggestions for hotel accommodation:

The final registration date is 31 March 2017.
Applicants will receive a confirmation of their registration within two weeks and will be informed about their acceptance to the course 29 March at the latest. When accepted to the course they will receive instructions for payment and further course details. To secure their place in the course the applicants have to arrange payment of their course fee within 30 days after invoicing. Registrations are accepted in the order in which the registration form is received.
Cancellation policy:
- Cancellation may be made free of charge until 8 March 2017.
- From 8 March - 31 March 2017 we will charge 25% of the course fee paid
- After 31 March no refund will be paid
Substitutions for participants may be made at any time until the start of the course.

The course fee (which includes materials, coffee/tea during breaks, lunches and one course dinner (Wednesday) but does not cover accommodation) depends on the participant’s affiliation:
