Applied Statistics for VLAG PhDs – edition 2016
The 2014 inventory among the VLAG PhDs indicated the need for more input in the area of "statistics", this need was foremost expressed by PhDs from the Food Science cluster (FCH, FPH, FPE, FHM and FQD). We offered an edition of Applied Statistics in August 2014. We will repeat this course in June 2016.
Target group/prerequisites
The target group consists of PhDs from the Food Science cluster within AFSG but also other PhDs can participate.
Course design
Each day consists of lectures and practicals using SPSS.
The examples used in the lectures and practicals are based on data provided by VLAG researchers.
Maximum number of participants: 20, the study load for this course is 1 ECTS.
Day 1 :
Hypothesis testing, analysis of variance (ANOVA), correlation, linear regression with
quantitative and qualitative predictors.
Day 2:
Sample size, (pseudo)replication, multiple comparison tests, multiple linear regression and
selection of variables.

Course fee/registration
The course fee is € 150 and covers coffee/tea during the breaks and lunch on both days.
