International Symposium on Polyelectrolytes
The meeting is the 12th in the ISP series of conferences started in 1995, on the physics and physical chemistry of polyelectrolytes.
Introduction
The meeting is the 12th in the ISP series of conferences started in 1995, on the physics and physical chemistry of polyelectrolytes, with a focus on understanding how electrostatic interactions determine and influence the behaviour of synthetic and biological charged macromolecules in solution, in complexes and at interfaces. We aim at continuing the success of the 11th edition in Moscow (2016) by providing a stimulating forum with prominent keynote and invited speakers, ample opportunities for oral and poster presentations, and plenty of opportunities to discuss and interact with colleagues. Wageningen is conveniently located, just one hour by public transport from Amsterdam Airport Schiphol.

Pre-conference PhD course on Polyelectrolytes
Ahead of the conference, on August 26 and 27, a PhD course on polyelectrolytes will be organized that will be free of charge for PhD students attending the conference, featuring extended tutorial lectures by a selection of the organizers and plenary speakers of the conference:

Abstracts for 20 min oral and posters presentations can be submitted for these topics, as well as on any topic that relates to the general focus of this conference series, which is on the influence of electrostatic interactions on the behaviour of synthetic and biological charged macromolecules in solution, in complexes and at interfaces. As part of the conference a special parallel session on “Polyelectrolyte complexes and adhesion” is organized by the EU ITN “BioSmartTrainee”.
Social event, Thursday August 30
Visit to Kröller-Müller Museum & Conference dinner at the WICC
The Kröller-Müller Museum in Otterlo has a world-renowned collection of mainly 19th and 20th century visual art. The centrepieces include the large collection of work by Vincent van Gogh and the sculpture garden. The museum boasts almost 90 paintings and more than 180 drawings, making it the second largest collection of Van Goghs in the world. The Museum is home to top works by modern masters including Claude Monet, Georges Seurat, Pablo Picasso and Piet Mondriaan. Temporary exhibitions ensure that the museum keeps pace with the latest developments and retains public interest.
The conference dinner will be held at the conference centre WICC. Transportation to the Kröller-Müller Museum by bus will be organized.

Call for abstracts
Participants are invited to submit abstracts for 20 min contributed (oral) presentations and for posters. Electronic submission of abstracts is required. Go to the abstract form provided by Wageningen Academic Publishers. Abstracts should be submitted before June 20, 2018. Authors will be notified about the acceptance of their contribution by July 1, 2018. Abstracts submitted for consideration as oral presentations, for which there is no space in the programme of lectures, will automatically be considered for poster presentation. All selected abstracts (for both 20 min oral talks and for posters) will be collected in the abstract book.
Rules for abstract submission
- Abstracts must not exceed 3500 characters (including spaces, title and the author names and affiliations).
- Do not include tables, figures, formulas and references.
- Omit professional and official titles in the author field.
- Do not use indenting.
Instructions for oral presentations
A laptop (Power Point office 2016 UK version, operating system is Windows 10) and beamer will be made available for your presentation. Please hand in your presentation on USB-stick during registration. We cannot allow use of personal laptops for your talk.
Publication/Special issue
Participants are invited to publish their contributions to the conference in a special issue “Polyelectrolytes and Polyelectrolyte Complexes” of the MPDI Journal “Polymers”. Research papers should contain original work not published previously elsewhere. Review papers related to the topic will also be considered. Submission deadline is Dec 1, 2018. Decisions on acceptance will be made by guest editors Renko de Vries and Frans Leermakers.

Conference venue & accommodation
The conference is hosted by the Wageningen International Congress Centre (www.wicc.nl). The conference centre can be reached by train (railway station Ede-Wageningen) and bus/taxi in less than two hours from Amsterdam Airport Schiphol (for train schedules see www.ns.nl/en). The organizing committee has blocked a sufficient number of hotel rooms at WICC. Hotel reservation is handled directly by the conference centre, e-mail: info@wicc.nl (booking code ISP2018). Reservation after July 15, 2018 will not guarantee accommodation.
