Wageningen breakwater wins audience prize 4TU Impact Challenge
25 November 2020 - category_news - Mitchell Williams (26) and Frej Gustafsson (23) received the most audience votes in the national 4YU Impact Challenge finals. They win a sum of 1500 euros but are equally thrilled with all the exposure for their ‘living’ breakwater. Their living breakwater is a sustainable structure that is to replace the concrete behemoths in the seas. ‘Our idea appeals to people and businesses, we received countless messages from interested parties.’ -
‘Living’ breakwater in finals 4TU Impact Challenge
13 November 2020 - category_news - Breakwaters are generally known as the grey colossal concrete structures that protect the coast. Master’s students Mitchell Williams (26) and Frej Gustafsson (23) are convinced there is a more ‘lively’ alternative. Their ReShore design not only protects the land, but it also offers a habitat for marine life such as oysters, mussels and seaweed. They join the national 4TUImpact Challenge finals on 19 November. Wageningen team FarmVent is also still in the race. -
Wageningen students in finals 4TU Impact Challenge
09 November 2020 - category_news - Grab a rosemary or basil plant from a vending machine as if it were a can of coke or a candy bar. Wageningen masters’ students Nikolaos Alfieris and Orestis Spirou made it to the 4TU Impact Challenge with their FarmVent. The 4TU Impact Challenge is an innovation contest of the four technical universities in the Netherlands, held on 19 November. Wageningen team ReShore is also still competing. -

Creative workshops and pitch-time @ Food System in 10 Years Challenge
21 October 2020 - category_news - On 15 and 16 October the seven teams competing in the Food Systems in 10 Years Challenge got creative! The students followed online workshops on Copywriting and Creative Visualization and pitched their concepts to a panel of a WUR expert, Stinger Dome representative and teacher and student of Reducations, Creative Academy. -
One year after the ReThink Protein Challenge
07 October 2020 - category_news - One year ago, 150 students - divided over 58 teams - accepted the challenge to find a new way to feed the world with sufficient protein in a sustainable, healthy and affordable way. Students presented ideas from silkworms as pet food to energy bars made from brewing residue. The winning teams received a cheque and support to further develop their ideas. One year after the challenge, Wageningen University & Research (WUR) revisits winners SWAP and ALFI – online of course. How are they doing now and what has become of their idea? -
