Global Case Competition - Towards Food Systems Summit 2021
11 March 2021 - category_news - A team from Wageningen University & Research participated in the Global Case Competition, organised by BI Norwegian Business School, EAT and Kearney. The goal of this competition is to generate game-changing solutions for the UN Food Systems Summit. Teams from around the world had 24 hours to work out innovative ideas to transform the food system. The WUR-team, consisting of Janina Fraas, David Mornout, Laura van der Poel and Thomas Westhoff, took the current locust crisis as a starting point for their game-changing solution to tackle the downfalls of our current food system. -
30 teams make it to the next round of the ReThink Protein Challenge’2
08 March 2021 - category_news - Back in January, 49 teams from 41 different universities spread over 18 countries across 5 continents started the ReThink Protein Challenge’2. Last week, after 1,5 months of hard work, the students handed in their milestones reports, in which they presented their solutions. The 30 contestants to make it to the next round were announced in the second online event of the ReThink Protein Challenge’2, held on the 3rd of March. -
Webinar: A social perspective on the protein transition
09 February 2021 - category_news - We are now used to the idea of reducing our meat consumption in favor of other kinds of protein, and businesses are acting to fill this need. What often falls through the cracks, is the impact that this transition might have in different societies around the world and on nonhuman entities such as animals. In an exciting webinar on 2 February, Dr. Jessica Duncan and Dr. Bernice Bovenkerk from WUR raised some of these questions, related respectively to the social impact of the protein transition on food systems and to the ethics of insect consumption. -

Wageningen students present outlook on future food systems in Stinger Dome
08 December 2020 - category_news - In ten years, what will be changed about the way we grow, produce, process, transport, prepare and consume our food? And what will be different in the way these activities impacted our society, incomes, environment, and climate following the COVID-19 pandemic? Students of Wageningen University & Research developed short films with their outlook on food systems in the period 2020-2030. Team SeaweedSensing won the jury award and team CROP won the audience award. -
WUR-students show our food’s future in seven short films
01 December 2020 - category_news - Wageningen students take strides towards the future of our food through premiering seven short creative movies about tomorrow’s food system. In the Stinger dome, on the World Food Centre grounds in the heart of the Foodvalley region, students will travel into the future to the year 2030 and review ten years of nutrition. The event is to take place on 7 December. -
Student Food Systems Innovation Challenge calls for Bold Actions towards the UN Food Systems Summit
27 November 2020 - category_news - On 23 and 24 November 19 student teams of Universities from all over the world competed in the Food Systems Innovation Challenge. Wageningen University in collaboration with its partners from the A5 Alliance organized a student challenge for teams from A5 partners and other interested universities; “the Student Food System Innovation Challenge”. In this challenge all student teams presented innovative, practical and outstanding ideas on Food System Transformation.
