Ten teams enter the UGC’2 finals
- Ten teams made it to the finals of the Urban Greenhouse Challenge, where students from all over the world attempt to design an urban greenhouse in Dongguan, China. Jury members were impressed by what the teams presented, but they still see room for improvement. -
The ten finalists of the WUR Urban Greenhouse Challenge 2020 announced
- After two preliminaries that began with more than 50 student teams from all over the world registering for the Urban Greenhouse Challenge organised by Wageningen University & Research, the ten finalists have now been announced. The challenge for the ten teams is to impress the jury with their final design of an Urban Greenhouse. -
Grand Finale of the Rethink Protein Challenge: SWAP – Silkworm as Protein and GrainGain win!
- Last Thursday it was time for the Grand Finale of the Rethink Protein Challenge, during which 20 student teams who made it to the finals competed with one another. The 20 finalists of the competition had worked on their ideas or prototypes for months along with business partners. Now it was finally time for the teams to impress the jury, consisting of several business partners, and the audience with their innovative projects focused upon feeding 9 billion people with sustainable, affordable and healthy proteins. -
GrainGrain and SWAP (Silk Worm As Protein) win the Rethink protein challenge
- During the Grand Finale of the Rethink protein Student Challenge at the Orion building, 20 student teams presented their idea or prototype. The two winning teams presented energy bars made from brewing residue and dogfood made from silkworm cocoons. The winning teams received a 5000 euros cheque and will receive support to further develop their ideas. -
The ReThink Protein Challenge: 20 finalists will enter the Grand Finale
- With the Grand Finale of the Rethink Protein Challenge approaching (June 27th), the 20 finalists have been announced. The selection has been tough. 58 student teams have initially registered for the Challenge. First selection round brought down the number of competing student teams to 40. -
Open Bajes plan wins international design competition for Bijlmerbajes
- The Open Bajes plan is the winner of the international competition Design the Ultimate Urban Greenhouse - a plan for the 21st-century redevelopment of the Bijlmerbajes former prison in Amsterdam. The winning design by the GreenWURks team from Wageningen comprises a sustainable green oasis for the local production of vegetables, run mainly by local residents. -

Recently Wageningen U&R has launched a Student Challenge to “Design the Ultimate Urban Greenhouse”, which is planned to run for several years. This challenge is open for students in relevant fields at universities or universities of applied sciences around the world. -
