Nearly 200 international students contribute to a zero-waste future with the ReThink Waste Challenge
18 January 2023 - category_news - On 18 January, students will kick off the ReThink Waste Challenge, an international student competition looking for the next step towards a sustainable world without waste. The competing student teams will come up with their own business idea or prototype for a technology to reduce or reuse waste, create reusable materials, and contribute to a sustainable future. -
Wageningen start-up wins 4TU Impact Challenge with ice-cold CO2 capture

Using a revolutionary cryogenic technology, the start-up founders want to capture CO2 at a low price. This way, they are hoping to contribute to the fight against climate change. -
Nature Based Future Challenge announced at COP27
14 November 2022 - category_news - WUR’s latest student competition, the Nature Based Future Challenge, is to begin in November 2023 and continue through June 2024. The challenge was announced during the United Nations COP27 climate summit in Egypt during the wrap-up of a session on agricultural transitions in mega deltas in Asia and Europe. -
FAO and WUR announce exciting collaboration plans aimed at empowering young innovators
02 November 2022 - category_news - Under the Memorandum of Understanding between Wageningen University & Research (WUR) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), WUR and World Food Forum (WFF) announced their new Innovation Alliance on 18 October, incorporating two important objectives for the first year: First, the Alliance aims to combine their existing activities for young innovative researchers and create follow up to teams in challenges like the Nature Based Solutions Challenge of WUR for even more impact. Second, the Alliance plans to launch an Innovation Incubator, to support young changemakers to turn their idea-stage solutions into ready-to-launch business plans. -
Wageningen team Colourectal wins gold medal in iGEM competition
01 November 2022 - category_news - A new self-test for colorectal cancer has earned Wageningen students a gold medal during the finals of iGEM, an international competition to improve the world with synthetic biology. Additionally, they were nominated for best presentation. The student team developed a pill containing genetically modified, probiotic bacteria that produce a blue substance when encountering tumours in the intestine. Blue poop means a chance of colorectal cancer. -
From Throne Speech to Tech Speech “Techrede”
30 September 2022 - category_news - The Technology Drivers launched Techrede 2022. The Technology Drivers are a group of ambitious, socially engaged students from the 4 Technical Universities in Delft, Eindhoven, Twente and Wageningen; an initiative of the 4TU.Federation. State Secretary of Infrastructure and Water Management, Vivianne Heijnen, watched the Techrede and praised the usefulness and necessity of the involvement of the Voice of the Future in the debate around societal challenges and driving technological innovation. The Drivers are committed to the same themes as the cabinet, but above all they want to build momentum. -
Coral reef rehabilitation project in Sri Lanka wins the Nature Based Solutions Challenge
22 September 2022 - category_news - Eight teams from Brazil, Congo, Indonesia, Nepal, Sri Lanka the Netherlands and Uganda made it to the finals of the Nature Based Solutions Challenge. On the 20th of September they pitched their projects to the jury members, followed by a panel discussion with stakeholders on the challenges of youth initiatives in nature based solutions . -
Winners UGC: “After nine months of working together, friendships for life have been forged”

The modular concept of LettUs Design wins the last edition of the Urban Greenhouse Challenge
30 June 2022 - category_news - LettUs Design has won the Grand Finals of the Urban Greenhouse Challenge and will receive a sum of €10,000 for their modular and inclusive urban farming design. The other winners are USC Stack and AMS Caterpillars. AMS Caterpillars has also won the local residents’ award. -
